In an open letter to the top of Microsoft, employees ask the company to stop supplying the HoloLens to the United States Army.
The employees do not want the product they develop to be used to kill people. In the letter they write that they “have not started working at Microsoft to develop weapons”. More than a hundred employees signed the letter.
A Microsoft spokesman said in conversation with The Verge that she does not want to respond to the letter at the moment and refers to a blog from October 2018. It states that internal feedback is valued, but that Microsoft honors the contract with the US military. .
In November last year, Microsoft signed a deal with the United States Army for 479 million dollars (429 million euros). Microsoft develops special applications for the HoloLens for the army and delivers 100,000 copies according to the contract.
The HoloLens is not available for consumers at this time. It is expected that a new version of the glasses will be announced next week at the Mobile World Congress (MWC).
