The United States would be better off with ECB president Mario Draghi as top executive of the US central bank board than it is now with “our own Fed person.” President Donald Trump said in an interview with TV channel Fox Business Network . He again claimed that he has the right to remove Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell from his position.
Trump has not been pleased with Powell for a long time. According to the president, this has raised interest rates much too quickly, which would be harmful to the economy. Draghi has not even raised interest rates since he took office in 2011 as President of the European Central Bank.
Earlier this month Trump played Draghi in a tweet, when it hinted that the ECB might be stimulating the economy in the euro zone. That would come down to helping European companies to fight American companies more easily, Trump thought.
