Boeing ripples across air lines

Southwest Airlines made considerably less profit in the first months of the year as expected. The problems with Boeing 737 MAX devices, which have to remain on the ground due to safety issues, put a brake on performance. The negative effect of the US government’s shutdown was also rave. Society had warned about this before.

Southwest closed the quarter with a profit of 387 million dollars. That meant a decrease of 16 percent compared to the measurement period a year earlier. Turnover increased by 4 percent to $ 5.1 billion.

Due to the Boeing affair, Southwest was forced to cancel thousands of flights. The company is forced to keep dozens of 737 MAX devices on the ground. The final impact on the quarterly revenue was $ 200 million, whereas it was previously estimated at a cost of $ 150 million. The results of the society, however, were slightly better than the average experts had expected.
