Trump continues to mount pressure on China

Donald Trump increases the pressure in the trade struggle with China even further. The American president announced that he would see room for further tariff increases for imported goods from China.

Trump stated that currently an import rate of 25 percent applies to $ 250 billion worth of goods shipped from China to the United States.

“I can certainly add another 300 billion dollars.” And I do that at the right time, “said the President.

He also said that China is committed to reaching a settlement.” Mexico also wants nothing more than a deal, “he added.

The president spoke to journalists in Shannon, Ireland, just before boarding the Air Force One government plane. He is on his way to France to attend the D-day commemoration.

China announced at the same time that it would continue to fight until the end. The “ultimate pressure” exerted by the Americans has not helped the talks between China and the US, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce reported.

According to Beijing, the future direction of the talks depends on Washington’s attitude. If the US decides to allow trade tensions to “escalate unilaterally”, then China has nothing to do but take the necessary countermeasures.
