FBI has launched an investigation into healthcare technology company Philips that may have made bribe payments in Brazil. For this reason, industry peers Siemens, Johnson & Johnson and GE are under the looking glass of the service. Reuters news agency reports based on sources.
The companies allegedly bribed officials in order to obtain public health contracts in Brazil. It is also about selling medical equipment in the country. According to authorities in Brazil, around 20 companies have been part of a cartel that has paid bribes and has burdened the Brazilian government with higher costs.
Philips is familiar with the issue and has previously conducted its own research. At the beginning of July a raid was made at a Philips office in Brazil. According to Philips, the investigation involves activities up to 2011. The company cooperates in the investigation of the authorities. Philips also confirmed that questions have been received from US parties. Which authorities are involved, the company did not report.
