Five people were injured in an attack with a knife in a shopping center in Manchester. The police have arrested a suspect and assume a terrorist act.
Two women and a man were taken to the hospital with stab wounds. According to the police, their situation is stable and they are not in danger to life. The other two victims were slightly injured. The suspect who has been arrested is a 41-year-old man. Nothing else has been disclosed about his motif or background. Sources report to The Guardian newspaper that the man was unknown to anti-terror agencies.
Quite soon after the attack, the investigation was taken over by the anti-terror department of the police “because of the location and seriousness of the incident”. The nature of his act means that the man is now regarded as a terrorist suspect, even though his motive is still unclear.
The police do not assume that more perpetrators were involved in the knife attack. Prime Minister Johnson says he is shocked by the attack.
“My thoughts are with the wounded and others involved,” he writes on Twitter.
