Nothing is known to the Mexican authorities about an agreement with the US government for the import of large quantities of agricultural products from the US.
President Trump announced earlier in the weekend that in addition to deals on combating illegal migration from Mexico to the US, it was also agreed that Mexico would immediately import a lot more agricultural and livestock products into the US.
“Our patriotic farmers could benefit enormously,” Trump predicted.
But that is not true according to Mexico City. The country has, under the threat of Trumps sanctions, agreed to take measures against illegal immigrants who mainly migrate from Central America through Mexico to the US. But nothing is known about an agricultural deal.
Mexico is already a growing market for American agriculture and animal husbandry. In 2018, it exported around 20 billion dollars worth of products to Mexico, especially corn, soy and meat.
