The number of homes under construction in the United States rose by 18.6 percent in January compared to a month earlier. That was what the US Department of Commerce announced.
The construction came to more than 1.2 million houses on an annual basis. Economists in the average expected that housing construction would increase by 10.9 percent. In December, housing construction declined by 14 percent according to a new estimate.
The ministry also announced that the number of building permits issued in January rose by 1.4 percent. Economists on average predicted a decrease of 2.9 percent here.
