Halle Bailey won the lead role in the remake of The Little Mermaid. Sources told us know that the actress and singer will play the role of Ariel.
Disney would also be in conversation with Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina. Melissa McCarthy would prey on the role of the sea witch Ursula. The 19-year-old Bailey was previously featured in Last Holiday, A Wrinkle in Time and Grown-ish series. Together with her sister Chloe, she forms the R & B duo Chloe x Halle.
The live action remake of The Little Mermaid, directed by Rob Marshall, should be released in 2020. The animated film, also released in Europe as The Little Mermaid, was a big hit in 1989. As with other Disney remakes by Aladdin and The Lion King, the new version of The Little Mermaid will also feature music from the original combined with new tracks. At the time, the song Under The Sea ran away with an Oscar.
